Vacant Property Services Case Study

The Challenge

Founded in the UK in 1996, Vacant Property Services (VPS) have been trusted to protect, manage and monitor remote and vulnerable sites globally offering customers total reassurance and confidence that their valuable assets are safe. With the development of a new product the VPS Security Tower the resulting challenge to B+B SmartWorx was to ensure the remote Tower’s communication was always on, provided remote alarm conditions, monitoring and notification services to the control centre and provided access to the latest high speed cellular infrastructures, additionally in itself was an asset that needed be tracked, a genuine mission critical application.

The Solution

Working integrally from the initial network design B+B SmartWorx worked to provide a reliable robust Cellular 4G platform as the base for VPS Tower communications. Deploying the SmartFlex cellular router V3 with its Dual SIM LTE capability ensures always on connectivity. Utilising the option of built in Global Positioning System allows B+B to provide VPS with both asset tracking and real time date / time stamping of images generated by the cameras to the control centre. The VPS tower is a totally IP based system, using IP camera’s and wireless passive detectors. Using a bespoke application designed and written to integrate with the SmartFlex Router we were able to provide a high level of bi –directional automation in the field, enabling the VPS Towers to perform specific actions (eg directing a camera to a specific location on site), power management and to provide crucial alarm messages to the remote control centre.

With live video and CCTV images being bandwidth dependent it was inevitable that VPS would wish to take advantage of the latest 4G / LTE capabilities. The decision to deploy B+B SmartFlex cellular routers exceeded expectations in both functionality and its capability to operate in remote outdoor locations and by integrating R-See-Net management software provided by B+B SmartWorx they are able to manage and monitor the communications, traffic and functionality of the devices from remote monitoring stations, invaluable in the growth of deployment of the towers both in the UK, USA and across Europe.
