B+B SmartWorx’ Tim Taberner Discusses Intelligent IoT Systems at IoT Applications Europe in Berlin

Addresses the challenges of Integrating legacy equipment into secure, scalable Internet of Things systems with flexibility for the future

Ottawa, IL – April 23, 2015 – B+B SmartWorx, a manufacturer of technology for intelligent Internet of Things (IoT) edge processing and connectivity, announced that its global product manager for advanced IoT cellular gateways, Tim Taberner, is a featured speaker at the IDTechEx Internet of Things Applications Europe, taking place in Berlin April 27 – 29, 2015.

Taberner was invited to participate in two sessions. During the Masterclass “The Internet of Things, WSN, RTLS and Active RFID” on Monday, 27 April at 2:30pm, Taberner will teach on the “Challenge of Integrating Existing Systems to the IoT.” Dr. Peter Harrop, chairman of IDTechEx, will moderate this Masterclass. Taberner will also present “How Distributed Intelligence at the Network Edge Impacts Industrial Processes: Reduces Total Cost of Ownership, Costs & Complexity; Protects Existing Investment; Speeds Develop & Deploy Cycles” on Wednesday, 29 April at 8:55am during the main conference.

“Machines have talked to machines for decades, but IoT technologies have inserted more intelligence, and complexity, into the conversation,” explained Taberner. “While companies desire the promises the IoT brings, many struggle with and even stop short of adoption due to the complexity of integrating legacy assets into the IoT vision. Languages spoken by OT (operational technology) assets in the field differ from those spoken in the IT world; bridging the gap between them is the challenge.”

Taberner will discuss the role of the edge device in capturing data from legacy OT equipment, and the features needed to transform process data into the enriched, filtered information sets needed by enterprise IT applications. He will explore the notion of Swarm intelligence^TM breaking the relationship between an edge and a single physical device, and the roadmap this provides to more secure, scalable, adaptable systems.
