B+B SmartWorx intelligent transportation solutions certified for FDOT Qualified Product List

Ottawa, IL – September 1, 2017 – Several transportation product solutions from B+B SmartWorx powered by Advantech were recently approved by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for upcoming projects, including an industrial-grade managed Ethernet switch series and serial server series.

FDOT representatives certified and added the B+B SmartWorx SE500 Managed Ethernet Series and VLINX VESP Serial Server Series to its Qualified Product List (QPL). The department completed a product test with an evaluator for the products to be considered for the QPL.

The SE500 Series of smart switches are designed and built to work in harsh and/or high-bandwidth application environments, with the addition of innovative, built-in intelligence features. The series utilizes compact sizes, the ability to connect multiple network layers and unique port combination options, such as up to 28 ports for Gigabit in 19-inch rackmount and a 20-port Gigabit in DIN-Rail option. The full gigabit option offers speeds up to 10 times greater than previous generations.

The B+B SmartWorx VESP series of Ethernet Serial Servers connect serial devices (RS-232, RS- 422 or RS-485) to Ethernet networks, allowing the serial device to become a node on the network. The product is built for use in harsh environments, featuring a heavy-duty metal enclosure that is panel or DIN rail mountable. Additionally, configuration, upgrades and monitoring are simple with Vlinx Manager Software. It installs right on a PC, allowing access to the serial server via desktop.

“We were especially proud of the response we received from the FDOT network specialist regarding our submitted products,” said Ken Kao, B+B SmartWorx director of ITS and networking solutions. “Even after testing many switches in the past, the specialist said he liked the SE500 Series, mentioning it was simple to use and easy to navigate. He specifically liked the ease of configuration using our Web GUI, and said our IXM cross management function is a great benefit for users.”

IXM Technology, embedded in SE500 Series devices, provides user-friendly, built-in intelligence for cross management and deployment functions. This allows administrators to upgrade firmware and deploy and restore configurations more efficiently.

IXM also offers auto synchronization of firmware updates and push configuration settings for individual or groups of switches via an easy-to-navigate Web GUI. With the Web GUI, users can manage a powerful suite of diagnostic, monitoring and network performance capabilities.

“We’re very enthusiastic about our QPL status. We look forward to being involved with future projects in Florida and bringing our solutions to its evolving transportation infrastructure,” added Kao.
